The Octagon in Baccarat's History
The Octogone collection begins with a detail from chandelier making. In the 19th century, Baccarat created an octagonal crystal pendant as a red signature detail for its chandeliers, and this pendant remains part of the house's design language to this day. Thomas Bastide transfers its geometry to the world of tableware. Baccarat describes Octogone as the manufacturer's most substantial and heaviest tableware collection.
On the whisky decanter, this is evident in clearly structured surfaces and precisely drawn edges. The ornament of the chandelier becomes the architecture of a vessel.
The Baccarat Octogone Whisky Decanter in Use
Measuring 24 cm in height, around 12.9 cm in width and 8.6 cm in depth, the decanter sits compactly on a bar or table. You will feel its weight of approx. 1.9 kg as you pour. The clear crystal keeps the colour of the contents visible, while the facets divide it into light and dark areas.
Baccarat intends the decanter for spirits from dark to clear: for a mature single malt just as for a light brandy. The manufacturer sees it as a statement piece and as part of a tasting ritual in which serving receives as much attention as the contents.
