Shape and craftsmanship: laboratory porcelain as inspiration
A piece of laboratory glassware has to work; it has no need of ornament. Thomas Wenzel applied this principle to tableware. Every bowl in the LAB series is strikingly thin-walled and bears the LAB stamp.
The shape draws its appeal from a contrast. On the lower part of the outside, KPM Berlin deliberately leaves out the glaze: the porcelain remains unglazed there and is glazed above. Each of the six bowls shows this change of surfaces. It reveals where the idea came from.
The KPM LAB bowl 19 cm in everyday kitchen use
KPM Berlin sees the LAB series as a multifunctional foundation for the experimental kitchen. One KPM LAB bowl measures 19.5 cm in diameter, is 5.8 cm high and holds 600 ml. That is enough for pasta, a soup or a bowl meal.
After the meal, the porcelain may go in the dishwasher according to the manufacturer, and the microwave is also permitted. KPM Berlin states this for both glazed and unglazed surfaces. With six matching bowls, you can lay the table uniformly for a larger group.
