Design and craftsmanship: the KPM Heart Vase by Trude Petri

The name describes the silhouette, not a motif: in 1932 Trude Petri gave the vase a rounded body that, seen from the front, recalls a heart. KPM Berlin still makes the Heart shape by hand in Berlin today. For the Edition Minimum Linie, a porcelain painter applies a black line to the white surface with a fine brush. According to the manufacturer, it runs either vertically or horizontally. The vase measures 19.5 cm in height, 19.5 cm in width and 13 cm in length, and weighs 910 grams.

Presence in the room

KPM Berlin sees the rounded body of the Heart shape as a calm backdrop for cut flowers. Without a bouquet, the vase works as an object in its own right: the black line divides the pale porcelain and gives the soft contour a graphic counterpoint. On a sideboard, a windowsill or the dining table, it stays understated yet remains recognisable. KPM Berlin supplies the vase in a gift box.

Tip

KPM Berlin conceived the Edition Minimum as a collage: arrange the Heart shape with other vases from the Minimum Linie to form a group, as the line ties the different shapes together.
