Kvadrat Saxion is a bouclé from the Kvadrat/Raf Simons collection, in which fashion designer Raf Simons creates upholstery fabrics for the Danish textile house. Kvadrat Saxion fabric combines the durability of an upholstery fabric with the natural texture and soft finish of a wool bouclé. Kvadrat offers it in 17 colours.

A bouclé with a specially developed yarn
Kvadrat developed its own yarn for Saxion. According to Kvadrat, it is made of worsted wool held together by a polyester binding thread. This creates the typical looped surface, warm in expression and yet clear in appearance. Wool makes up the main share, complemented by nylon and polyester.
The test results explain why Saxion is classed as an upholstery fabric: in the abrasion test to EN ISO 12947, the fabric achieves 100,000 Martindale. In the pilling test to EN ISO 12945 it receives a rating of 5 out of 5, so the surface has very little tendency to form bobbles.
Colours inspired by Japanese vintage textiles
The colour scheme goes back to Japanese vintage textiles. Raf Simons wanted to keep the palette softer without losing the strength of the pigments. Ultramarine, rhodonite pink and sunflower yellow set distinct accents. Alongside them are calm tones: greys from talc and ash to slate and cement, greens in jade, emerald and moss, plus a warm porcelain and burnt sienna.

At 140 cm wide, Saxion is suitable for upholstery and covers, loose covers and cushions. As the fabric is woven plain, you do not need to consider a pattern repeat when cutting. The bouclé texture adds depth to large upholstered areas without competing with a pattern.
