There is only one workshop in the world that still weaves horsehair by hand with rare expertise. It takes infinite patience as well as precise and confident gestures, acquired over months of apprenticeship, to create a unique weave strand by strand. The technique requires so much attention to detail that only a few meters are woven each day, and it is no surprise that Le Crin (horsehair), the workshop in Challes on the Sarthe, is the heir to a patent dating back to 1787. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label, Le Crin is a true winter garden. In combination with linen, wool, sisal or metallic threads, horsehair allows the creation of motifs, light effects and sometimes bold nuances.
